Jaipur globally popular as the ‘Pink City’,
is 260 km from Delhi and 240 km from Agra
and forms the golden triangle of Delhi, Agra
and Jaipur. It a bustling Capital City and a
fast growing business center, with all the
trappings of a modern metropolis, yet
flavored strongly with an age-old charm that
never fails to enthrall the tourists. The
old Jaipur painted in pink can grip any
visitor with admiration.
Its stunning backdrop of ancient forts that
have witnessed several rulers and weathered
many battles -Nahargarh, Amer, Jaigarh and
Moti Doongri - are apt testimonials of the
bygone era and a reminder of their lingering
romance and chivalry. The City’s sprawling
and lush gardens tell the nostalgic historic
tales of frolic and romance. The Sisodia
Rani Garden is a tiered multilevel garden
with fountains, water channels and painted
pavilions and suites of living rooms. Among
others, Vidhyadhar-ka-Bagh, built by the
legendry planner of the city –Vidhyadhar, is
one of the best preserved gardens, with
shady trees, flowing water, and an open
pavilion.
Incidentally, the world’s largest cannon on
wheels stand stoically at the Jaigarh Fort
and tell, even in its silence, the stories
of gallantry and valor of the City’s
remarkable history. The Elephant Festival,
celebrated as part of the Holi festival (a
harbinger of spring), and elephant as well
as horse polo of Jaipur are, indeed, a
testimony of the grandeur of the bye-gone
royal era.
